The Benefits of Body Oil

Updated: Jan 2, 2021

Body oil is an incredible multi-tasker, but many beauty lovers are only just starting to talk about its benefits. With the popularity of “oil-free” products in the past, we’re still trying to recondition ourselves to remember that oil can be an amazing addition to our skin care routine! Despite its name, body oils are typically very lightweight, protecting and enhancing skin without leaving it greasy.

The number one thing that makes body oil a great investment is that it’s highly specialized and concentrated. That means that, regardless of skin type, there’s an oil that offers benefits you’ll love – and a little goes a long way!

Our LimeLife body oil, Dew Confidence, was specially developed to help firm and smooth while providing all-day moisture. It’s formulated with an essential oil blend of hazelnut, rosemary, geranium, and mint, all of which help to tone and visibly improve the elasticity of the skin. Hazelnut oil, in particular, is especially rich in omega 9 and vitamin E, both of which help to lock in moisture while the lightweight formula absorbs instantly.

How to Use Body Oil

Whether you’re ready to dive head-first into body oils, or you’re just dipping your toe into its amazing benefits, there’s an option for you!

Apply all over after showering and exfoliating.

Probably the most common way to use body oil is as an all-over moisturizer. It’s best to reach for it right after stepping out of the shower, so the oil has a chance to lock all that moisture into your still-damp skin.

Start with your favorite exfoliant (our Bamboo Renew polishes with walnut shell powder and a refreshing oil blend) in the shower to smooth and remove dead or dry skin cells, then lightly towel dry. Pour a small amount of body oil into your palm and evenly distribute it all over. Next, check your body oil bottle to find out whether it recommends rinsing or waiting for the oil to absorb. With Dew Confidence, we suggest letting the oil sink in for a minute before jumping back in the shower for a quick rinse before toweling off.

Drop some body oil into your bath.

Start the moisturizing process in the tub by adding a few drops of your body oil to the running water. Relax and enjoy the soothing scent while your skin soaks up some light moisture. We’d be willing to bet your lotion can’t do that!

Use body oil for massage.

Applying body oil is a great excuse to take an extra two minutes for yourself. Rather than smoothing it on in a rush and running out the door, try paying extra attention to aching muscles or pressure points. Using the oil to reduce friction, soothe the balls of your feet or use your opposite hand to massage the valley between your thumb and forefinger. Practitioners of reflexology believe that massaging this point might help to reduce stress and tension. We’ve found that just setting aside a few minutes to focus and breathe can have some pretty great benefits, too!

Focus on extra dry areas.

Use your body oil as a spot treatment for those extra dry areas, like your knees, elbows, heels, and cuticles. After you’ve moisturized head to toe, go back and focus on the spots that need a little extra love. You might also want to keep a small bottle of oil near your bathroom sink to smooth on your hands and nails after washing your hands. Focusing on these dry areas is especially important in the dry winter months.

Mix body oil with your favorite lotion for a moisturizing boost.

If you’re not quite ready to make the switch from lotion to oil, consider finding a middle ground that works best for you! Add a few drops of body oil to your daily moisturizer to give it an extra boost. This is a great way to take advantage of the specific properties of your body oil, while still feeling the familiar texture of a lotion you know and love.
